DignityUSA Conference
Scholarship Application Form

DignityUSA’s 25th national conference will be held in San Diego, California Illinois from Friday, July 8 through Sunday July 10, 2022. The conference will be held at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp District. It is being preceded by a 2 ½ day Leadership Academy, that requires separate application and acceptance. We invite applicants interested in these events, but concerned about the costs associated with attendance, to apply for some of the scholarship funds generously donated by our members and friends.

After assessing our financial resources and the challenges of sponsoring international travel during Covid, our leadership has, with deep regret, decided that we are not able to offer international scholarships for our 2022 event. We hope to be able to resume this practice for future gatherings. We are very sorry that we cannot provide this support at this time.

To help defray the cost of attending the convention and increase individuals’ ability to contribute to DignityUSA’s mission, DignityUSA offers scholarships based on the guidelines:

  1. Preference for scholarships is given to members of DignityUSA, and our international partners, or to those willing to make a commitment to the organization at the national or local level.
  2. DignityUSA is committed to equity of involvement. Therefore, applicants of color, diverse genders/gender identities/gender expressions, women, people with disabilities, and those experiencing temporary or long term economic marginalization will be given priority access to scholarships, especially those made available through the Nickie Valdez Scholarship Fund.
  3. All scholarship recipients will be asked to spend up to 4 hours over the weekend volunteering. Our volunteer coordinator will contact each recipient to schedule volunteer time and task(s).
  4. DignityUSA encourages recipients to become more involved in the organization’s activities in the year following the conference. Applicants must describe how they believe Conference attendance will lead to increased involvement with DignityUSA, a local Dignity Chapter and/or a DignityUSA Caucus.
  5. Preference will be given to applications received by May 15, 2022. Awards will be made based on the availability of funds. If additional funds become available, later applications or those not funded in the initial award round may be considered.

Approximate costs are (not including food/personal costs):

  • Registration: $325 if received by May 15, 2022, or $295 for first-time attendees, $205 for young adults (see Conference Registration information on website for other registration fees)
  • Airfare ~$500 average nationwide
  • Housing:  Westin Gaslamp District ~$240 for two nights (including taxes), or ~$360 for three nights based on double occupancy (double room rate is $209/night plus 17.4% tax; per person rate $93.35/night). Up to two additional people may be in room, which would decrease per person rate.

Applications received by May 15, 2022 will receive first consideration. Those received after that date will be considered only if additional funds are available.
