Robert Gleason

Robert Gleason is the President and CEO of Evans Hotels, the co-founder and supervising attorney of the name and gender-marker change legal clinic sponsored by the University of San Diego School of Law, Chair of the Patient and Family Advisory Council for Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego’s Center for Gender-Affirming Care, and Co-Chair of the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast.

Outside of work, Robert has held numerous leadership roles with local, state, and national organizations in the areas of the arts, education, inclusive economic development, international trade, electoral politics, and civil rights.  He currently serves as a State-appointed Commissioner with both Visit California and the California Film Commission, Secretary of the San Diego County Lodging Association, Chair of the Arts Advisory Committee for San Diego International Airport, a member of the Committee to Nominate Alumni Trustees at Princeton University, and on several advisory committees in the hospitality, education, and philanthropic sectors. 

Prior civic commitments include serving as Chair of the Los Angeles Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Chair of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, Chair of Francis Parker School, Chair of the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, Director of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, Vice Chair of The Old Globe, Chair of the San Diego LGBT Community Center, and Executive Committee Member of the Alumni Council of Princeton University. 

He is a proud member of the LGBTQ community whose advocacy has spanned over three decades.  Currently, he is the co-founder and supervising attorney of the name and gender-marker change legal clinic sponsored by the University of San Diego School of Law, Chair of the Patient and Family Advisory Council for Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego’s Center for Gender-Affirming Care, and Co-Chair of the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast. 

He holds an economics degree from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.  He and his husband, Marc Matys are the parents of two teenage boys.
